Reasons Why You Should Visit Tanzania

Tanzania is wonderfully diverse country which contains more than its fair share of the continent’s natural wonders, whilst still remaining relatively light on tourist numbers. Although some of the more famous landmarks within the country such as Mt Kilimanjaro, the Serengeti National Park, Ruaha and the Ngorongoro Crater do experience a high volume of visitors every year, it’s nothing in comparison to neighbouring Kenya which is considered mass market tourism. When it comes to the most popular holidays in Africa there is nothing that beats an African safari combined with a beach holiday. With that in mind there is nowhere else on the African continent you would rather participate in this other than in Africa. Tanzania is one of the only destinations on the African continent that has wildlife reserves within close proximity to some of the continent’s most fabulous beaches. By using light aircraft within the country to get around you can be viewing lions on the plains of the Serengeti in the morning and spending the afternoon on one of Zanzibar’s finest beaches soaking up that tropical sun.

A Tanzania safari combined with a vast array of beach holiday options is a luxury many other African nations don’t have access to. Zambia, Namibia & Botswana are all nations that suffer this fate as visitors don’t have direct access to any of the continents tropical beaches, meaning it’s at least a day’s travel, sometimes two days to finally reach the Eastern seaboard.

Did you know that 25% of all international visitors are motivated to visit Tanzania to experience climbing Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain, and the tallest free standing mountain in the world.

The majority of tourists visiting Tanzania usually head for the Northern parks, including the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara etc. The reason this area is so popular with tourists usually boils down to three underlying factors, the unique geological landscape, the high concentration of animals and the opportunity to interact with the local Masai community. The Serengeti is home to one of the most famous animal migrations in the world, the wildebeest migration which takes place once a year beginning in the southern region of the park before heading up to the famous Mara River crossing before heading over into Kenya. Just over 1.5 million wildebeest and 500,000 zebra take part in this magical event which spans over several months of the year, and although this is a very popular time to visit the Serengeti, and lodges do fill up rather quickly, it’s a sight you will remember forever.
